The receiving team can review supported information alongside its origin, update date, and any gaps in the source record. The project focuses on making a summary understandable while keeping the limits of the available data visible.
A patient summary from another organization may use unfamiliar codes, different identifiers, or information recorded at different times. These differences can make it difficult to understand what a summary includes and which details require clarification.
Keeping source information and unresolved terms visible helps clinicians assess what they are reading. Access permissions and exchange history also give participating organizations a way to account for requests and the information shared.
An exchange begins with an authorized request and checks against the agreed identity, purpose, and access rules. The gateway retrieves permitted information, checks the summary structure, and applies approved mappings to supported coded terms.
The viewer displays the summary with timestamps, source references, and indicators for missing or outdated information. Unresolved terms enter a review queue. Connections to national exchange services depend on the necessary agreements and approvals; automatic translation of clinical free text is outside the scope.
